John Paul Hardy is an artist based in Haydon Bridge, Northumberland. Working almost exclusively in acrylics, the artist draws his inspiration from his own sports photography. His most recent works attempt to convey frozen dynamic movement through angular shapes. Paul's career as a web developer has caused him to develop his own abstraction of form.
"I have long been fascinated with how, on a web page, an image a mere 50 pixels square can still be clearly discerned. From just the barest amount of data, the human brain is capable of filling in the gaps as it were. I am interested in depicting my subjects using the minimum of information, so that the viewer is aware simultaneously of the whole and its component parts."
The results are striking, bold and colourful canvasses, and a style almost completely bereft of any direct influence.
